Sharp Objects in a Bouncy Castle

Philip Fulgham

Oh hey! This Dev Talk has already happened. You can catch a video of the talk on YouTube.

Information security and data privacy are trending today as more users learn about their importance and implications, though really, these things have always been essential for good software engineering. One of the most robust ways to protect data is encryption, but there are many combinations of platforms and encryption standards out there, and some are a lot more cryptic (get it?) to use than others. I’m going to show you how to navigate implementing OpenPGP encryption, one of the most popular and secure open standards for encrypting messages, in a .NET project. We’ll build a straightforward wrapper in C# for the OpenPGP APIs provided by the Bouncy Castle project, and explore some of the different security concepts involved.
