Intro to Docker

Hayden Braxton

Oh hey! This Dev Talk has already happened. You can catch a video of the talk on YouTube.

Docker is a relatively new technology, but its adoption has been widespread and promises to drastically change the way we develop and ship apps. Gartner itself claims that “by 2020, more than 50% of global organizations will be running containerized applications in production.” So are you tired of hearing about all the hype? Are you ready to learn what IS Docker, really, and what use-cases it may offer you?

In this talk, we’ll begin with an introductory discussion on how container technology works, in general, and the motivation for containers. Then we’ll explore the basics of Docker by spinning up containers and building some images. Finally, we’ll examine a few use cases for Docker and then see a preview of what else there is to learn in the world of containers.
